Teach English Abroad with TEFL Campus

Teacher Training

Our training is absolutely comprehensive and over 98% of course graduates state that they feel as if the course has prepared them for working within a classroom environment.

Accredited Certification

TEFL Campus accredited TEFL courses provide the certification employers require for teaching positions.  Without such certification, finding a good teaching job is very difficult—if not altogether impossible in some cities.

Well Planned Lectures

A balance of methodology, grammar, phonology and of course teaching skills, our lectures provide insightful, practical and helpful information every TEFL professional needs to know before entering the classroom.

Thorough Lesson Planning

Before each teaching session, trainees work under the guidance of their trainer for more than two hours, discussing teaching methods, reviewing teaching skills and prepping materials for class.

Insightful Teaching Observation

After each teaching session, trainees receive individualized reviews of their strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to improve their methods before the next class.

Preparation and Confidence in the Classroom

Can you imagine walking into a classroom and teaching without any training whatsoever?  We certainly can’t.

Income

Although so many sites out there like to quote average income, the truth is that a teacher’s income will vary greatly.  Factors include, but are not limited to the following: location, type of work, type of employer, as well as an individual’s qualifications and experience.

In general, most teachers are able to earn a very nice wage in relation to the local cost of living.

Work and Career Development

Types of Jobs

Mainstream Education –Whether working for public or private schools, this is where most teachers will find their full-time jobs.  There is work to be found in pre-schools, at the primary and secondary levels and at universities.  While most will find jobs teaching English as a second or foreign language, jobs teaching subjects such as science, math, PE, drama and even civics are available in some countries.

Language Centers – Full-time or part-time, language centers also represent a huge opportunity of employment.  Teaching at a language center offers a lot of variety because you usually teach many different types of classes in any given week.  Hours can be a bit sporadic and you have to be flexible with your personal schedule.

Corporations – Teaching within a private corporation usually means you’ll be the only teacher working on the premises so you have to be independently driven and able to meld within the local culture.  Duties range from teaching small classes and individuals, to proofreading emails and helping executives practice their pronunciation.  This type of position is best suited for someone with a bit of experience behind them as it requires skills such as curriculum development and materials selection.

Perks

Like income, total remuneration packages will vary greatly.

Sometimes free accommodation is offered, although teachers should always ask to see their accommodation first and ask if any additional fees are required, such as electricity, water and other utilities.  If accommodation is not up to the teacher’s standards, they might ask for a slightly higher salary to offset these additional costs.

Return airfare can still be found but this is usually reserved for positions in the Middle East and South Korea.  End-of-contract bonuses can also be found and if a teacher can finish a year’s contract, these bonuses can go a long way to increasing yearly income.

End-of-contract bonuses are not uncommon and amounts vary greatly.  Some bonuses come in the form of reimbursement for working documents, others offer airfare home or some even offer packages that are equal to two months’ salary.  It all depends on your employer and their conditions.

While many employers like to state that they offer health insurance, the fact of the matter is that health insurance is often a legal requirement.  Mandated by law or not, employers should almost always offer basic health insurance to their teachers.

Career Development

An onsite TESOL training program that meets international standards is the best way to quickly and affordably start a career in teaching.  That being said, TESOL certification is just the start of professional development and additional qualification options are plentiful.

Advanced TESOL certificates are a great place to start.  TEFL Campus offers two options for free advanced certificates: the Certificate in Teaching Business English (CTBE) and the Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners (CTEYL).  Both are studied online and can be completed in 50 hours.

A Diploma in TESOL (Dip TESOL) is another great way to advance one’s career.  Much more demanding, these courses are typically 250 hours in duration and usually require at least one year of experience before being undertaken.

While a bachelor’s degree in almost any field will qualify one to teach according to many government’s regulations, post-grad degrees in subjects such as applied linguistics, TESOL, curriculum development and other related subjects will most certainly result in positions of responsibility and higher salaries.
