The TEFL course in Chiang Mai is located on Chiang Mai University’s beautiful campus and offers a learning experience unlike any other in northern Thailand. Having run successfully for well over a decade, we’ve helped TEFL teachers find thousands of jobs across Thailand, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas, and great opportunities teaching English online.
The TEFL course is accredited by the Board of Language Institute Chiang Mai University. In fact, it’s the only TEFL course in Chiang Mai with university accreditation. The Chairman of LICMU and six committee members (made of academics, deans and directors) continue to review the course syllabus and academic reports. TEFL course graduates will receive a TEFL certificate signed by the Vice President of CMU. Prospective trainees can rest assured that the program is internationally recognized by employers.
Enrollment in this course also provides a 3-month ED Visa for Thailand. Contact us to find out more.
Chiang Mai is a favorite with Thais and foreigners alike, and it has the largest concentration of expats in Thailand—many of whom are teachers. Just spending a month in this ancient city is an unforgettable experience, so it should come as no surprise that it’s a popular place to take a TEFL training course.
The CMU campus is located just outside the Old City wall, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the laid-back local atmosphere. There are countless cafes and eateries, bustling markets, and quiet back lanes of this charming provincial town. Frequently voted a Top 10 Worldwide Destination by readers of both Conde Nast and Travel + Leisure magazines, Chiang Mai offers an authentic Thailand experience with plenty of attractions, yet remains one of the cheapest destinations in Southeast Asia. It also boasts one of the most comfortable climate in Thailand.

We highly recommend trying to stay as close to the training center as possible. In addition to saving time, it’ll save the discomfort of walking in Thailand’s heat and the hassle of walking in the heavy rain. While you’re free to choose where you’d like to stay, we have two great suggestions for safe, comfortable and convenient accommodation. Both options offer Wi-fi, an en suite toilet (private bathroom), and air conditioning.
Monthly rates range from 7,000 to 7,500 baht. That’s less than US$ 250 for the month even with the most expensive standard option. Rates quoted here include an estimate of utilities cost and a deposit payment will be used to secure those funds.
If you’re looking for more luxurious accommodation, we can help you find a good hotel or condo rental in the area. For more information about accommodation options, fees and amenities, please contact us.
Huay Kaew Palace is 2km (1.25 mi) from the training center and has a pool. The neighborhood packed with convenient restaurants, cafes and shops, as well as a large mall/cinema. At 7,000 baht (US$ 233) for the month, you can’t really find a better deal. Utilities not included.
Nandamalee Place just 1.4kms (.9 mi) away. The area is quiet and just near the foothills of a mountain range. The monthly rate is only 7,500 (US$ 250).
Even though the TEFL course in Chiang Mai is quite demanding, you’ll be staying in the university district with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the laid-back local atmosphere in numerous student bars and eateries or rent a bike to explore the quiet back lanes of this charming provincial town. On your walk home from class, you’ll exit CMU campus and pass countless opportunities to experience Thai culture and interact with friendly locals.
Being a popular center for tourists and expats, there’s also a measure of sophistication in the city; just down the road from our center is a mall where you can catch a movie, stock up on computer accessories or kit yourself out like the locals. There are quite literally dozens of fun and inspiring things to do in Chiang Mai
